It all started when German immigrant, Bill Vollmer opened his first bakery in 1932 selling decadent cakes he had learned to make as an apprentice. The bakery eventually expanded to 12 retail stores in the Denver metro area by the late 1970's. It was at that time, that Joseph Sekrieh, who had also immigrated to the United States and was working in the computer field, took advantage of an opportunity to own a Vollmer's franchise. "I didn't know anything about bakeries so I had to go to school at Vollmer's while I was working my other job. I didn't even know the names of the cakes, so I came in at 2 a.m. each day and learned from Bill Vollmer, the master baker who did everything his way." After buying the company, Joseph realized that there was a great demand for Vollmer's quality products in the wholesale industry, so he purchased a manufacturing facility and closed the retail outlets. He continued the tradition that Bill Vollmer had implemented, using only the finest and freshest ingredients and using the same processes that Bill Vollmer had perfected over the years; with the same attention to detail and quality that had always been the signature of a Vollmer's product.
Whether it is cheesecakes, tortes or pastries, everything made at our facility starts with select ingredients and is mixed in small batches that are baked to perfection. Each cake is finished or hand decorated by one or more of our talented decorators and then packaged with care and attention to make sure that our cakes look as good on the outside as they are on the inside. Most of our employees have been with us for many years including Frank who has been with us for more than 40 years.
